Mountain Maid exists to strengthen the church of Haiti by proclaiming the gospel, making disciples and partnering with local church members to produce products that provide a sustainable income.  We  desire to see this vision lived out one individual, one family, and one local church at a time. Our artisans each have an opportunity to sell their products at Mountain Maid and here on our online store.  Each person has a specific plan for the money they earn through their projects. For some, it is to send their children to school (an opportunity many of them never had). Others desire to simply provide a consistent level of income for their family’s food and basic needs. This is an opportunity to experience the dignity and pride that comes along with using one’s own hands to provide for one’s family.

1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 says, “…to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you, so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one.” Paul was encouraging the church at Thessalonica to live quietly and to work with their own hands, because their humble work was primarily a testament to the change that had occurred in their lives because of the gospel. Through working they became self-sufficient and were not a barrier to spreading the gospel. Likewise, we desire that the Christians involved with our projects work with their hands primarily for the purpose of rightly representing the gospel to their friends and neighbors.   Those that do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ we are intentionally communicating the the truths of the Gospel.
